Let The Gouging Begin :)

One of the first hotel-flight packages for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics is charging about $1,400 a night for a room that usually costs $289 during the height of the summer season.

Regina-based Dash Tours has just started selling hotel and flight packages for the 2010 Olympics. Its platinum package costs $25,999.

That includes a round-trip flight to Vancouver from anywhere in Canada or the U.S., a limo ride from the airport, 18 nights at the Delta Vancouver Suites Hotel and a reception.

But it does not include tickets to Olympic events.

Ergo, there is something to be said in favour of laughing. People have a biological need to laugh.

What's to laugh at?

I know this subject matter rightly belongs in another thread, but it seems pertinent to include it in this one. I laughed quite a lot while reading this Hansard. If I were to have to come up with pull-quotes from it, this would be it:

Hon. C. Taylor: It really is totally extraordinary that something negative can be made out of something that is so positive. The wage mandate we have put on the table, which we believe is fair to all of those public sector workers who do so much important work in our community, is $4.7 billion. That's one of every two dollars that we're going to spend over the next few years of this fiscal plan.

Given that, and then to say we will give additional incentives if you sign longer contracts, because we believe that is for the good of British Columbia — up to $300 million there…. In addition, we will provide an incentive for every single public sector employee of $3,300 if in fact the contract negotiations go well. To see that in a negative light is unbelievable.

What the hell ARE you talking about?

A - I could give a rat's *** if Uts likes me. I don't know him, nor have I ever aligned myself with him, and he doesn't know me. What makes you believe we know each other? (oh yeah, must be that paranoid tendency).

B - "Damper"? "Righties"? Again, if you took two seconds (or severely exercised your brain power) to think about things, you would not call me a rightie.

C - Yeah, in fact a LOT of PSers ARE next-to-worthless - in their working capacity. This does not mean that they are worthless as people (however it does seem to be a trait in recent history for folks to attach self-worth to what it is they do for a living rather than who they are as people, which is IMHO kinda dumb, since doing so closes the door to further individual growth and development. Hmmmm.....)

D - As for "Years of right-wingnut whining has come to an end I hope!, All I can say is that the only folks I encounter who would say something like that are extremists. If you met me in real life you would not think of me as a right-wingnut, and you'd be hard-pressed to find an instance in things I said that would convince you that I am anything like the stereotype you are unsuccessfully trying to bash.

Folks who hang around in the centre all the time are getting mighty tired of being called lefties by righties, and righties by lefties.

Well, I am, anyways.

Congratulations. So happy for you. I think that's how everyone else feels, too.
I happen to think that Vancouver's businesses starting to gouge people already is funny. Hence the "ROFL". If you don't think it funny, that's your problem.

Fair enough.

But there are two kinds of funny.

One is the kind one laughs at personally.

The other comprises something that if one looks at it with an open mind, one can see the funny-ness that another would see - even if they cannot themselves laugh, they can understand beyond their own sensibilities to what others may find funny, and laugh along with them.

It's a lot more therapeutic than the first kind, because the first kind requires some level of enjoyment that is of a base nature, as in one-dimensional, which leaves little, if any, room for sharing of the laugh in question.

Well I find your reply funny as hell! Even though It wasn't directed at you, but your post! So just what the hell are you talking about? Your bash on the ps is just stupid, and very narrow minded!

Ah, Cpl, you are entitled to your opinion, as is anyone who isn't abusive in tone.

But I must say, you and your buddies crack me up too - how you all can continue to form opinions without analysis of data is entirely beyond me.

Incapable of analysis is the problem.

I find this entire thing hilarious. Do these hotels actually think they'll get this type of money? Especially since alot of them are not wonderful places in the first place? But, OTOH, if people are stupid enough to pay those prices, let the hotels and travel agencies make a killing...it's the only time they'll be able to do so.

Totally off topic, and you thought you posted something sounding smart or like some psuedo academic, doesnt even come close to being psuedo academic.

Grow up - go out in the real world.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaatever.
If no-one patronizes those gougers it's deserved; if some fools do pay those prices they deserve to be gouged, and I'll continue to laugh at them both.

How are they doing this?It is now against Local regulations to rent a place out for less than 30 days............................................ ...Bwaaahahahahha
